Punjab’s Ex-minister’s son charged in sexual harassment case

CHANDIGARH: The police have filed a chargesheet against Jasjit Singh Bunny, the son of Punjab former cabinet minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh of SAD, in a sexual harassment case.
Bunny was accused of sexually harassing a woman at the reception of saloon and misbehaved with its owner. He was charged under Sections 354 A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC. The chargesheet was filed in the court of a chief judicial magistrate. The accused who was present in the court was granted bail after furnishing bonds of Rs 50,000
On November 11, 2018 the saloon owner had complained to police that Bunny had come to her saloon in a drunken state and asked for a head massage at the reception. While having the conversation, he touched the woman at the reception, the complaint alleged. As he was allegedly drunk, he was asked to leave the premises. “He started hurling abuses and using vulgar language. The saloon owner was called and he abused her too. He threatened to slap her,” the complaint alleged.
A copy of the chargesheet would be handed over to the complainant on the next date of hearing following which charges would be framed against the accused after arguments. The matter would come up for hearing on July 10.
In November 2017, a local court had framed charges against Bunny for allegedly assaulting a retired Punjab Police official and a supporter of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The charges had been framed under Sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Prakash Chand, the complainant, had alleged he was assaulted by Bunny in Sector 9, Chandigarh. Chand had said he had come to the Sector 9 residence of Bunny after attending a rally of AAP with Sarbajit Kaur, the mother of Bunny, in Punjab. While he was standing outside the residence on his scooter, Bunny came to the spot and started assaulting him, he alleged. Bunny was arrested in the case but later he was released on bail.
